INTRODUCTION

Wholesalers supply insurance brokers with insurance products from insurance markets that are not available to brokers.  Sometimes called Managing General Agents (MGA's). MGA's are authorized by  insurance companies to manage all or a part of their business in a specific geographic territory.  Activities on behalf of the insurer may include marketing, underwriting, issuing policies, collecting premiums, appointing and supervising other agents, paying claims, and negotiating reinsurance.  Pure wholesalers do not compete with insurance brokers; they do not deal with clients of brokers but simply limit their operations to supplying brokers with products.
